Alison Louise Kennedy (born 22 October 1965 in Dundee, Scotland) is a Scottish writer, academic, and stand-up comedian known for her novels, short stories, and non-fiction that blend dark realism with fantasy. Notable works include Day (2007, winner of the Costa Book of the Year), Paradise (2004), Serious Sweet (2016 Booker longlist), and Night Geometry and the Garscadden Trains (1990). Her major achievements include twice being named to Granta's Best of Young British Novelists list (1993, 2003), the Somerset Maugham Award, Lannan Literary Award, and Austrian State Prize for European Literature.
