Mindy AloffAmerican
Mindy Aloff (born December 1947 in Philadelphia) is an American dance critic, essayist, editor, and journalist whose writing on dance, literature, film, and culture has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and other major publications worldwide. Educated at Vassar College and the University at Buffalo (M.A.), she has taught dance at Barnard College since 2000 and received the 1987 Whiting Award, 1990 Guggenheim Fellowship, and Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. She is the author/editor of several books including Dance Anecdotes (2006), Hippo in a Tutu (2009), Leaps in the Dark (2011), and Why Dance Matters (2023).
