Adrienne KennawayNew Zealand
Adrienne Kennaway (1945-2025) was a New Zealand-born illustrator and author of children's picture books, best known for her vibrant watercolor illustrations of African animal folktales such as Crafty Chameleon, Greedy Zebra, and Hot Hippo, often in collaboration with Mwenye Hadithi. She won the prestigious 1987 Kate Greenaway Medal for Crafty Chameleon, recognizing outstanding British children's book illustration. Raised partly in Kenya and later residing in Ireland, her work drew heavily from her global experiences and love of wildlife.
