Walter de la Mare (1873–1956) was an English poet, short story writer, and novelist best known for his children's literature, the poem "The Listeners," and psychological horror stories such as "Seaton's Aunt." Initially working in statistics at Standard Oil's London office from 1890 to 1908, he received a Civil List pension that allowed him to write full-time.
