About the Author

Wallace Stevens (1879-1955) was an American modernist poet born in Reading, Pennsylvania. He studied at Harvard and New York Law School before building a career as an insurance executive, rising to vice president at the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company while writing poetry in his spare time. His notable works include Harmonium (1923), Ideas of Order (1935), The Man with the Blue Guitar (1937), and Collected Poems (1954), the latter earning him the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1955.
