Conrad Potter Aiken (1889–1973) was an American poet, short story writer, novelist, and critic, best known for his psychologically themed works influenced by early symbolism and Freudian theory, including the widely anthologized short story "Silent Snow, Secret Snow" and his autobiography Ushant. He achieved major literary honors such as the Pulitzer Prize for Selected Poems (1930), the National Book Award for Collected Poems (1954), and served as U.S. Poet Laureate from 1950 to 1952.
