Cinderella, or the Little Glass Slipper

Marcia Joan Brown (1918-2015) was an American author and illustrator of over 30 children's picture books, best known for her adaptations of fairy tales and folktales including Caldecott Medal winners Cinderella, or the Little Glass Slipper (1955), Once a Mouse (1962), and Shadow (1983), as well as six Caldecott Honor books such as Stone Soup (1947) and Puss in Boots (1952). She received the ALA Children's Literature Legacy Award in 1992 for her lasting contributions and was twice nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. Her innovative illustrations, varying from woodcuts to pastels, earned her the distinction of the most honored Caldecott illustrator with nine total recognitions [ALA Caldecott list].
