Uio TomisawaJapanese
Uio Tomisawa (1902-1970) was a Japanese writer and painter born in Oita City, Oita Prefecture. He dropped out of Tokyo School of Fine Arts after a year, worked as a cartoonist for Shin-Aichi Shimbun, studied painting in France, and won the prestigious Akutagawa Prize in 1937 for his novel Chichūkai (Mediterranean). His career spanned pure literature and art criticism early on, war record novels during wartime, and primarily children's literature and foreign literature translations postwar. Read more →
