About the Author

Justin Marozzi (born 1970) is an English journalist, historian, and travel writer known for his works on the Middle East and Islamic history, including the bestselling Tamerlane: Sword of Islam, Conqueror of the World (2004), Baghdad: City of Peace, City of Blood (2014, winner of the Royal Society of Literature's Ondaatje Prize), and Islamic Empires: Fifteen Cities that Define a Civilization (2019). He has contributed to major publications like the Financial Times, The Economist, and The Spectator, holds fellowships with the Royal Geographical Society and Royal Society of Literature, and was shortlisted for the 2025 Baillie Gifford Prize for Captives and Companions.com, Chartwell Speakers, RSL
