At the End of the Open Road

Louis Simpson (1923-2012) was a Jamaican-born American poet whose work evolved from formal structures to more narrative styles exploring the American experience. He achieved major recognition with the 1964 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his collection At the End of the Open Road, alongside other notable works like Searching for the Ox and Collected Poems, and awards including the Rome Prize and Guggenheim Fellowship.
