About the Author

Lygia Fagundes Telles (1918-2022) was a Brazilian novelist and short story writer, known for her postmodern works exploring themes of death, love, fear, madness, and fantasy, often set against Brazil's military dictatorship. She published her first book at age 20, worked as a lawyer while writing, and became the third woman elected to the Brazilian Academy of Letters in 1985, winning major awards including the Camões Prize in 2005 and a Nobel nomination in 2016.
