Samrat UpadhyayNepalese-American
Samrat Upadhyay (born 1964) is a Nepalese-born American writer and professor of creative writing at Indiana University Bloomington. His debut collection Arresting God in Kathmandu won the 2001 Whiting Writers' Award, making him the first Nepali-born fiction writer published in the West, and his novel The Guru of Love was a New York Times Notable Book of 2003. He continues to publish acclaimed short story collections and novels exploring themes of desire, family, and Nepalese society.
