Shipler (born December 3, 1942) is an American author and journalist best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning book Arab and Jew: Wounded Spirits in a Promised Land (1987), along with other notable works like Russia: Broken Idols, Solemn Dreams (1983) and The Working Poor: Invisible in America (2004). A former New York Times correspondent in Moscow, Jerusalem, and Saigon, he has received major awards including the George Polk Award and Overseas Press Club Award, and continues to publish, with recent books in 2023 and 2025.
