Virginie Despentes (born Virginie Daget, 1969) is a French writer, novelist, and filmmaker from Nancy, raised in a working-class family. She gained notoriety with her debut novel Baise-moi (1994), which she co-adapted into a controversial film in 2000, and later achieved major success with King Kong Théorie (2006), the Vernon Subutex trilogy (2015-2017), and Apocalypse Bébé (2010, Prix Renaudot winner).
