James Pope-Hennessy (1916–1974) was a British biographer and travel writer best known for his acclaimed biographies including Queen Mary (1959), for which he was appointed CVO, Anthony Trollope (1971), and Robert Louis Stevenson (1974, posthumous), as well as his debut London Fabric (1939), winner of the Hawthornden Prize. Born in London to a military family, he established himself as a leading biographer after World War II service in military intelligence, also authoring travel works like West Indian Summer (1943) and later taking Irish citizenship.
