Lawrence Rush "Rick" Atkinson IV (born 1952) is an American author, journalist, and historian best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning military histories, including the Liberation Trilogy on World War II (An Army at Dawn, The Day of Battle, The Guns at Last Light) and the Revolution Trilogy on the American Revolution (The British Are Coming, The Fate of the Day). After a distinguished career at The Washington Post where he won two Pulitzers for journalism, he transitioned to full-time writing, earning additional awards like the Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement.
