Set during World War II, the novel follows Marie-Laure, a blind French girl who flees Paris with her father carrying a legendary diamond, and Werner, a German orphan who joins the Hitler Youth and eventually becomes a radar operator. Their paths converge in the bombed city of Saint-Malo on the coast of Brittany.

About the Author

Anthony Doerr is an American author born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1973. He studied history at Bowdoin College and received his MFA from Bowling Green State University. He is the author of two short story collections, two novels, and a memoir. Read more →
