Linda GreggAmerican
Linda Alouise Gregg (1942–2019) was an American poet born in Suffern, New York, who grew up in Marin County, California, and earned her BA and MA from San Francisco State University. Known for her spare, luminous poetry exploring themes of grief, desire, and beauty inspired by her travels including time in Greece, she published her debut collection Too Bright to See in 1981 and had a long relationship with poet Jack Gilbert. Gregg taught at numerous universities such as Columbia, UC Berkeley, and Princeton, received awards including the Jackson Poetry Prize, PEN/Voelcker Award, and multiple Pushcart Prizes, and died of cancer in New York City.
