Maria GripeSwedish
Maria Gripe (born Maja Stina Walter) was a Swedish author of books for children and young adults, known for her magical and mystical narratives often presented in short series such as Hugo and Josephine, the Shadow series, and Lotten books. Born in 1923 in Vaxholm, Sweden, she wrote nearly 40 books, with her husband Harald Gripe illustrating most of them, and achieved international acclaim, winning the Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1974. She died in 2007 at age 83 after suffering from dementia.
