Gerda Charles (pseudonym of Edna Lipson, 1915–1996) was an English novelist born in Liverpool to an Orthodox Jewish family, known for chronicling the Anglo-Jewish experience. Her notable works include A Slanting Light (1963), which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and The Destiny Waltz (1971), winner of the inaugural Whitbread Novel of the Year award. She also worked as a journalist and editor, contributing to publications like the New Statesman and Jewish Chronicle.
