About the Author
Kenzaburō Ōe (1935–2023) was a Japanese novelist born in Ōse, Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku, whose works, influenced by French and American literature, explored political, social, and philosophical themes including nuclear weapons, social non-conformism, and existentialism. Notable works include A Personal Matter, The Silent Cry, and Hiroshima Notes.
