Tayari Jones won the 2026 Kirkus Prize for Fiction for Kin, announced on 7 October 2026 at the Tribeca Rooftop in New York. The other finalists were This Is Where the Serpent Lives by Daniyal Mueenuddin, Eating Ashes by Brenda Navarro, Luna, Phoenix, Queen by Julie Orringer, John of John by Douglas Stuart, and Cool Machine by Colson Whitehead.
In a powerfully compelling novel that brims with the cadences of the Black South, Jones explores the women's diverging lives while using them as a lens to observe social injustice in language that is intimate, conversational, and musical.
