Yves Navarre

Yves Navarre (1940-1994) was a French writer born in Condom, Gers, France, who studied literature at the University of Lille and worked in advertising before dedicating himself to writing. A gay man, most of his novels and plays explored themes of homosexuality, love, and later AIDS, with notable works including his debut Lady Black (1971) and Les Loukoums (1973). He achieved major recognition by winning the prestigious Prix Goncourt in 1980 for Le Jardin d'acclimatation, a novel about a young man lobotomized for his homosexuality, and received the Prix Amic from the Académie française in 1992 for his body of work.
