About Yepoka Yeebo

Yepoka Yeebo is a British-Ghanaian journalist and author. She has worked for Bloomberg, Quartz, and other publications reporting on business, finance, and culture in Africa and the African diaspora. Anansi's Gold: The Man Who Swindled the World (2023, Bloomsbury) is her debut book. Anansi's Gold tells the story of John Ackah Blay-Miezah, a Ghanaian con man who for decades convinced heads of state, intelligence agencies, and international businessmen that he was the sole trustee of a vast fortune left by the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah — a myth he called the Oman Ghana Trust Fund. A globe-trotting true crime story about race, colonial guilt, deception, and post-colonial politics, it won the Jhalak Prize in 2024. Yeebo's work is distinguished by its deep archival research and its ability to illuminate the structural conditions that make particular forms of fraud possible.
