About Xavier Benguerel

Xavier Benguerel i Llobet (1905-1990) was a Spanish writer and translator born in Barcelona, who debuted in Catalan novelistic literature in 1929 with Pàgines d'un adolescent. After serving in the Spanish Civil War and 15 years in exile in Chile, where he founded a pharmaceutical lab, he returned to Catalonia in 1954, co-founding the Club dels Novel·listes publishing venture and producing key works amid Francoist repression. His notable achievements include the Planeta Prize in 1974 for Icaria, Icaria, depicting pre-war anarchist Barcelona, and the Honour Award of Catalan Letters in 1988. Escriptors.cat
