Wisława Szymborska was a Polish poet born on July 2, 1923, in Prowent (now part of Kórnik), Poland, who made her poetic debut in 1945 and became known for her ironic, precise poetry exploring human reality. She resided in Kraków for most of her life, working for literary journals and translating French poetry, before passing away on February 1, 2012. In 1996, she received the Nobel Prize in Literature for "poetry that with ironic precision allows the historical and biological context to come to light in fragments of human reality," with her books achieving exceptional sales in Poland.
