Wiley Cash is an American literary crime fiction author from North Carolina. He won the CWA Gold Dagger for This Dark Road to Mercy (2014). His novels are set in the American South and explore themes of family, violence, and regional identity. Cash studied creative writing at the University of North Carolina and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before publishing his debut novel A Land More Kind Than Home (2012), which received widespread critical acclaim. This Dark Road to Mercy followed in 2014 and won the Gold Dagger, bringing him to international attention. He is a professor of creative writing at the University of North Carolina Asheville. His work is praised for its lyrical prose, complex moral dimensions, and authentic depiction of Southern Appalachian communities.
