About W. David Hancock

W. David Hancock is an American playwright whose birth year is not publicly available. He earned a BA from Bucknell University in 1984 and an MFA from the University of Iowa in 1990, and is best known for his Obie Award-winning plays with the Foundry Theatre, including The Race of the Ark Tattoo (1998) and The Convention of Cartography (1994). His experimental works, which blur artifice and reality in unconventional spaces, have earned him awards like the Whiting Writers' Award and CalArts/Alpert Award, and he continues to create internationally, including the collaborative piece Cathexis (2018).
