Viola Canales, born April 21, 1957, in McAllen, Texas, is an American author of Mexican-American descent known for her young adult fiction celebrating Latino culture, including the award-winning novel The Tequila Worm (2005), which earned the Pura Belpré Award and PEN Center USA Award, as well as short story collection Orange Candy Slices and Other Secret Tales (2001).com
