About Vergílio Ferreira

Vergílio António Ferreira (1916–1996) was a Portuguese writer, essayist, and professor, a key figure in Portuguese-language literature known for his transition from neorealism to existentialism. His experiences in a seminary and as a teacher inspired his most famous work, Manhã Submersa (1953), while he won the prestigious Camões Prize in 1992 for his body of work. He authored numerous novels, essays, and diaries exploring human existence and consciousness.
