About Urie Bronfenbrenner

Urie Bronfenbrenner (1917-2005) was a Russian-born American developmental psychologist renowned for his ecological systems theory, detailed in notable works like The Ecology of Human Development. He immigrated to the US at age six, earned degrees from Cornell, Harvard, and Michigan, served as a military psychologist in WWII, and spent nearly 60 years at Cornell University as professor of human development. A co-founder of the Head Start program, he authored over 300 papers and 14 books, influencing child development policy and research worldwide.
