Tsuyoshi Kotani

Tsuyoshi Kotani (小谷剛) was a Japanese physician and novelist born on September 11, 1924, in Kyoto City, raised in Nagoya, and graduated from Nagoya Imperial University Medical School. He opened an obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Nagoya while pursuing writing, editing the literary magazine Sakka and nurturing young talents. In 1949, he won the first postwar Akutagawa Prize for his work Kakushō (Proof), with notable later works including Fujinka-i no Karute (Gynecologist's Chart) and Nezumi no Tensu (Rat's Natural Lifespan).
