Trudy Dittmar (1944-2024) was an American nature writer and essayist born in Neptune, New Jersey. She earned degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (BA), University of Chicago (MA), and Columbia University (MFA), taught writing at Brookdale Community College, and published essays in outlets like The Norton Book of Nature Writing, Orion, and Georgia Review. Her notable achievements include the 2000 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award, 1997 Pushcart Prize, and 2003 Whiting Award; she divided her time between New Jersey farm country and a cabin in Wyoming.
