About Toi Derricotte

Toi Derricotte was born on April 12, 1941, in Hamtramck, Michigan. An American poet, she is the author of six poetry collections including \"I\": New and Selected Poems (2019), The Undertaker's Daughter (2011), and Tender (1997), as well as the memoir The Black Notebooks (1997). She co-founded the Cave Canem Foundation in 1996, served as Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets (2012-2017), and is professor emerita at the University of Pittsburgh, with awards like the 2020 Frost Medal.
