About Tara Westover

Tara Westover (born 1986) is an American author raised in a survivalist Mormon family in rural Idaho without formal education or medical care. She self-taught to enter Brigham Young University, earned a PhD in intellectual history from Cambridge, and wrote the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir Educated (2018), which has sold millions and won numerous awards including finalist for the LA Times Book Prize and PEN/Jean Stein Book Award. Named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People in 2019, she received the National Humanities Medal in 2023.
