About Tan Twan Eng

Tan Twan Eng (b. 1972) is a Malaysian novelist of Straits Chinese descent, born in Penang and raised in Kuala Lumpur. He worked as an intellectual property lawyer before becoming a full-time writer, with his debut novel The Gift of Rain (2007) longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. He is best known for The Garden of Evening Mists (2012), which won the Man Asian Literary Prize and the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize; his 2023 novel The House of Doors was longlisted for the Booker Prize.
