About Takagi Taku
Taku Takagi (高木卓, real name Hiroshi Andō) was a Japanese novelist, German literature scholar, music critic, and author born on January 18, 1907, in Tokyo. He graduated from the University of Tokyo's German Literature Department, taught at high schools and later as a professor at the University of Tokyo and Dokkyo University, and was nominated for the Akutagawa Prize in 1936 and won it in 1940 for his historical novel "Uta to Mon no Tate" (Song and Gate Shield), though he declined the award. Notable works include historical novels like "Hokubō no Seiza" and children's adaptations of classics such as "Heike Monogatari" and "Genji Monogatari"; he also translated Wagner operas and contributed significantly to music criticism in post-war Japan.
