About Steven Carroll

Steven Carroll (born 1949 in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian novelist known for his Glenroy series, including The Art of the Engine Driver (2001), The Gift of Speed (2004), and The Time We Have Taken (2007, winner of the Miles Franklin Award and Commonwealth Writers' Prize). He studied at La Trobe University, taught English and drama, served as drama critic for The Sunday Age, and is now a full-time writer and book reviewer for the Sydney Morning Herald.
