Steve Coll (born 1958) is an American journalist, academic, and author best known for his nonfiction books on intelligence, national security, and geopolitics, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning Ghost Wars (2004) about the CIA in Afghanistan and Private Empire (2012) on ExxonMobil. House. He spent two decades at The Washington Post rising to managing editor, served as dean of Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism until 2022, was president of the New America think tank, and is a longtime staff writer at The New Yorker.Knight First Amendment Institute.
