About Stephen L. Carter

Stephen Lisle Carter (born 1954) is an American legal scholar, author, and the William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law at Yale Law School since 1982, where he teaches courses on contracts, evidence, professional responsibility, and the law and ethics of war. B.A. from Stanford University and a J.D. from Yale Law School, clerked for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, and is known for nonfiction works on law, religion, and politics such as The Culture of Disbelief, Civility, and Invisible, as well as bestselling legal thrillers like The Emperor of Ocean Park.
