About Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a Mexican-Canadian author of speculative fiction, horror, and historical fantasy. Born in Mexico, she immigrated to Canada and has become one of the most celebrated voices in contemporary genre fiction. Her breakthrough novel Mexican Gothic (2020) is a lush, critically acclaimed Gothic horror novel set in 1950s Mexico, drawing on the traditions of the English Gothic novel and Mexican cultural history to create something entirely original. Moreno-Garcia is a prolific writer with a remarkable range: her other novels include Gods of Jade and Shadow (2019), a mythological fantasy set during the Mexican Jazz Age; Velvet Was the Night (2021), a noir thriller set in 1970s Mexico City; Signal to Noise (2015), a coming-of-age story about magic and music; and The Beautiful Ones (2017). She has also edited several anthologies of speculative fiction. Mexican Gothic won the Goodreads Choice Award for Horror in 2020, the British Fantasy Award, and numerous other honours, and was optioned for a television series by Hulu. Moreno-Garcia lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
