About Sid Smith
Sid Smith is an English novelist, poet, and journalist born circa 1949 in Preston, Lancashire. He worked in manual labor jobs for seven years before becoming a journalist for 17 years, including as a sub-editor on The Times, and publishing his debut novel Something Like a House in 2001 at age in his 50s, which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and Whitbread First Novel Award. His notable works include A House by the River (2003) and China Dreams (2007), often set in or obsessed with China, along with later Nisbet Chronicles.
