About Shizuko Gō

Shizuko Gō (1929–2014) was a Japanese novelist born in Yokohama as Michiko Yamaguchi. She gained prominence with her 1972 semi-autobiographical novel Requiem, which won the prestigious Akutagawa Prize and depicted wartime experiences including factory work and tuberculosis. After resuming writing in 1968 post-family life, she authored several anti-war themed novels and became active in peace movements.com
