About Sherwin B. Nuland
Sherwin B. Nuland (1930-2014) was an American surgeon, bioethicist, and writer, best known for his National Book Award-winning nonfiction book How We Die: Reflections on Life's Final Chapter (1994), a New York Times bestseller and Pulitzer finalist. Born Shepsel Ber Nudelman in the Bronx, New York, to Jewish immigrant parents, he graduated from NYU and Yale Medical School, practiced surgery for over 30 years, and taught surgery, bioethics, and history of medicine at Yale School of Medicine.
