About Sergio Pitol
Sergio Pitol (1933-2018) was a Mexican writer, translator, and diplomat known for his novels, short stories, and essay-memoirs that blend parody, irony, and literary reflection. Orphaned young and raised in Veracruz, he studied law and literature at UNAM, served in the Mexican Foreign Service in Europe and Asia, and later taught at Universidad Veracruzana. He received the Cervantes Prize in 2005 for his body of work, along with the Herralde Prize for El desfile del amor and other accolades.
