Seiko Tanabe

Seiko Tanabe (田辺聖子) was a Japanese writer born in Osaka in 1928, who became a professional author after winning the Osaka Citizen Award in 1956 and gained prominence with the Akutagawa Prize in 1964 for her novel Kanshō Ryokō (Sentimental Journey). She authored diverse works including love romances in Osaka dialect, biographies, essays, and adaptations of Japanese classics like The Tale of Genji, reflecting her deep connection to Osaka culture. Tanabe received numerous accolades, including Person of Cultural Merit in 2000 and the Order of Culture in 2008, before her death in 2019.
