About Sebastian de Grazia

Sebastian de Grazia (1917–2000) was an American political philosopher born in Chicago who earned his BA and PhD in political science from the University of Chicago. NYT Obituary He served as an analyst in the Office of Strategic Services during World War II and was Professor of Political Philosophy at Rutgers University from 1962 to 1988. His notable works include The Political Community (1948), Of Time, Work, and Leisure (1962)—earning him the title \"father of leisure\"—and the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Machiavelli in Hell (1989).
