About Sarah Shun-lien Bynum

Sarah Shun-lien Bynum (born 1972) is an American writer of Chinese descent, known for her novels and short stories that often incorporate fairy tale elements and explore wonder and darkness. Her debut novel Madeleine Is Sleeping (2004) was a National Book Award finalist and winner of the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize, while Ms. Hempel Chronicles (2008) was a PEN/Faulkner Award finalist; she has also published the short story collection Likes and received a Whiting Award.
