About Sara Paretsky

Sara Paretsky is an American author born in 1947 in Ames, Iowa, best known for creating the female private investigator V.I. Warshawski in her 1982 debut novel Indemnity Only, revolutionizing the mystery genre by portraying a tough, independent woman detective. She has written over twenty V.I. Warshawski novels, stand-alone works like Bleeding Kansas, and short story collections, with her books published in 30 countries. Paretsky founded Sisters in Crime in 1986 to support women crime writers, earning Ms. Magazine's Woman of the Year award, and has received the Cartier Diamond Dagger for lifetime achievement and the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master award.
