About Santiago Lorén

Santiago Lorén Esteban (1918-2010) was a Spanish physician and writer born in Belchite, Zaragoza, who studied medicine after serving in military health during the Spanish Civil War. He won the prestigious Premio Planeta in 1953 for his second novel, Una casa con goteras, a realist work with black humor, and later received awards like the Premio Ateneo de Sevilla for La vieja del molino de aceite (1984); he also wrote screenplays, essays, short stories, and taught History of Medicine at the University of Zaragoza while contributing as a journalist.
